My New Year’s Resolution #3: Drink More (Warm) Water
I’m getting ready to do my New Year’s Colorado Cleanse and one component that I love yet forget about every year is the practice of sipping on warm water all day long. It doesn’t sound very appealing, but it quickly can become a grounding and natural way of staying hydrated, especially in the wintertime. After a few days on the cleanse I found myself waking up and reaching out for my hot water instead of tea or coffee.
According to Dr Douillard drinking plain boiled hot water is an ancient Ayurvedic method for flushing the lymphatic system, softening hardened tissues, and dilating, cleansing and then hydrating deep tissues. It also heals and repairs the digestive system and flushes the GALT (lymph on the outside of the intestinal wall. Simply boil a kettle of water for a few minutes before filling up a cup 2/3 full. Add a little room temperature water to taste. Hot water is also widely available on the road, at work and in any home. You can walk into any café and get a cup of hot water, often for free.
I find that I often reach out for a cup of tea when I am craving hydration and warmth. Unfortunately excess of tea is drying is to the system and, if you are like me, you also use tea as an opportunity to indulge in milk and sugar when really, you could be better served by hot water. Try it! You’ll be surprised how good it’ll feel!
