11 Ways to Avoid and Reduce Wrinkles

By on July 13, 2016

Say goodbye to sun damage with these 11 tips to prevent and reduce wrinkles.

1. Avoid excessive sun exposure

It’s the #1 cause of wrinkles, with dozens of studies documenting the impact. In one study that looked at identical twins, sun exposure was even more important than heredity. Siblings who limited sun time had fewer wrinkles and looked younger overall than their sun-worshiping twins.

2. Wear sunscreen

If you must go out in the sun, wear natural sunscreen! It will protect you from skin cancer, and help prevent wrinkles at the same time.

3. Don’t smoke

Some of the research is still controversial, but more and more studies are confirming that cigarette smoke ages skin — mostly by releasing an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin, important components of the skin. Smokers have more wrinkls and up to 40% thinner skin than non-smokers.

4. Get adequate sleep

When you don’t get enough sleep, the body produces excess cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells. Get enough rest and you’ll produce more HGH (human growth hormone), which helps skin remain thick, more “elastic,” and less likely to wrinkle.

5. Sleep on your back

Sleeping in certain positions night after night leads to “sleep lines” — wrinkles that become etched into the surface of the skin and don’t disappear once you’re up. Sleeping on your side increases wrinkles on cheeks and chin, while sleeping face-down gives you a furrowed brow.

6. Don’t squint — get reading glasses

Any repetitive facial movement — like squinting — overworks facial muscles, forming a groove beneath the skin’s surface. This groove eventually becomes a wrinkle. Also important: Wear sunglasses. It will protect skin around the eyes from sun damage — and further keep you from squinting.

7. Eat more Omega 3

Vitamin A in almonds is an awesome source of an essential fatty acid known as omega-3. That essential fatty acid helps nourish skin and keep it plump and youthful, helping to reduce wrinkles.

8. Eat more fruits and vegetables

They have antioxidant compounds. These compounds fight damage caused by free radicals (unstable molecules that can damage cells), which in turn helps skin look younger and more radiant, and protects against some effects of photo-aging.

9. Use moisturizer to reduce wrinkles

Women, especially, are so concerned with anti-aging products they often overlook the power of a simple moisturizer. Skin that is moist simply looks better, so lines and creases are far less noticeable. Almond oil or kumkumadi oils are the best options for moisturizing.

10. Don’t over-wash your face

Tap water strips skin of its natural barrier oils and moisture that protect against wrinkles. Wash them off too often, and you wash away protection. Moreover, unless your soap contains moisturizers, you should use a cleanser instead.

11. Apply aloe vera

Aloe vera consists of as many as:

  • 75 nutrients
  • 20 minerals
  • 12 vitamins
  • 18 amino acids
  • 200 active enzymes

Aloe vera contains Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6 and B12, Vitamin C and E, folic acid and Niacin. Minerals found in aloe vera include copper, iron, sodium, calcium, zinc, potassium, chromium, magnesium and manganese. These nutrients naturally present in aloe vera make it a potential herbal product that can be safely used both internally and externally.

This exotic plant contains other beneficial compounds like polysaccharides, mannans, anthraquinones and lectins. The presence of these nutrients makes it possible to use aloe vera for variety of therapeutic purposes. Aloe vera not only cures the skin, health and hair problems, drinking aloe vera juice supplies the body with essential nutrients which help to produce and maintain healthy skin. Aloe vera helps to remove dead cells and replenishes it with new ones, giving the skin a radiant glow.

Aloe vera gel contains two hormones, Axim and Gibberellins which have wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe vera with its powerful healing capability helps to treat sun burn at the epithelial level of the skin. It acts as a protective shield for the skin and heals the skin quickly. It can also be used as an after shave treatment for its healing properties can treat small cuts caused by shaving. Aloe vera also helps to reduce stretch marks by healing the wounds. This is one of the best benefits of aloe vera for skin.
